A Peaceful Escape on the Dimaniyat Island Tour
When I first went snorkeling at Daymaniyat Islands, I was not sure it would be that easy. All you have to do is keep your head in the water and hardly need to swim! The minute your head is under water, the entire world of the underwater comes alive. The clear waters surrounding the Oman islands are so crystal clear that a person would think that someone polished it at night.
I was on a small morning cruise and arriving at the anchors, I observed immediately a motion close at hand. It was a sea turtle! It was peacefully swimming around as though it was greeting us. I slid down the water and worked over the shallow reefs and could see rich and vibrant colours down below that were better than the pictures I had seen before.
The corals resembled small forests under the sea, and the fish moved without a care in the world as people swam above them. Ghosts of yellow fish flew together in schools of one. A stingray slid past the sand, startling me a little. In a few more minutes, another sea turtle was in sight, gnashed a piece of seagrass, and disappeared in the blue once more.
I was more intrigued by the fact that everything was so quiet. Just drifting with no struggle, no rush. And you need not be a good swimmer; the water supports you. Since the reefs are near the surface, you are always close to the action.
Personal tip: It would be good to bring your mask if you can to ensure the perfect fit even with the clear waters. To make things livelier, come earlier in the day; the light makes everything brighter.
I found myself living in a different world upon our return. I can definitely say for certain that the way snorkeling is done here is not merely an activity, but a little adventure in itself.
