City Tour Vibes Before Heading to Wadi Shab

Prior to joining the city tour Muscat add-on, which was then connected to a Wadi Shab and Bimmah sinkhole tour, I didn’t realise how much context it would give the rest of the day. It was a good idea to visit Muscat first. Its mosques, markets, seashores, and ancient forts enhanced the nature experience more, and it is almost like learning the personality of a place before entering its calm and silent corners.

The day began in Muttrah, and the breeze was salty, coming in through the corniche. We meandered through wooden doorways, tiny shops and narrow streets crowded with the local life. The guide told stories in a simple and friendly manner that made everything easy to follow. These little details actually offered firsthand experience of the cultural traditions of the people.

Having seen the city, we drove to Wadi Shab. It was dramatic how Muscat, with its calm scenery, changed into the rugged canyons. On the way up, the mountains became even higher and grew bold in shape against the sun; the kind of scenic drive that causes one to stare out of the window without uttering a word.

The climb up Wadi Shab was quiet. The road became wider and narrower, pools and shadowy spots appearing after every few minutes. Upon seeing the turquoise pools in the first view, we all stopped instinctively, all gazing at them.

I felt as though I was in another world, swimming in the Wadi. The chilled water, the sound of footsteps and the silence between cliffs provided a pure and quiet escape. It is the kind of place that makes you forget about the modern world, at least in the short run.

Our day was concluded with Bimmah Sinkhole, which was shimmering in the afternoon sunlight. The water was deep and smooth, nearly silky. The day was finished off with a swim there.
