Snorkeling with turtles for the first time

I had previously booked a Dmaniyat Island tour on a random Saturday morning, and I hadn't given it much thought. At the end of the day, it was one of those slow and memorable days you would remember long after the day had ended. The water was so smooth and it felt like we were gliding across glass since the boat had gone out of the marina. The sun was still tender, and gold and the ocean had that dreamy look, making everything seem unreal.

As we approached the islands, the well-known bright turquoise water came into sight, shimmering and perfect. One can understand why this is one of the most beautiful places in Oman. The combination of rugged cliffs and calm, clear waters actually sets the tone for a calm adventure.

We anchored on a shallow reef and once I dipped my legs in the water, I found myself snorkeling with turtles oman without much effort. A turtle swam under me like he was simply giving me a tour of the reef. The experience of such moments is remarkably personal; you’re simply floating above sand and coral while one of Oman’s gentle marine residents glides beneath you.

These corals were tiny but full of life. The small fish were flitting about, vibrant colors were reflecting from the sunlight, as different shapes and sizes of marine wildlife swam about. I was floating above the shallow reefs, but got the impression that I was floating over a beautiful underwater garden.

There were two places where our guide brought us. The second place had more visible and bigger schools of fish, one of which consisted of a very close group of yellow snappers, moving together like a single creature. They were naturally following me around, making the experience more magical.

We ended the morning relaxing on the boat, drying off in the breeze. After spending hours surrounded by Oman's marine life, this felt like the most fitting ending to a simple yet refreshing adventure.
