Whale Shark Season in Oman: My Unexpected Encounter at Daymaniyat Islands

I had a chance to join the popular whale shark tours oman with the highest expectation. I just couldn't wait as I was eagerly waiting to spend the day out on the water. Even though sometimes the wildlife might not show up, I was equally optimistic. But then, it was during the afternoon and the ocean offered us something far from our imagination

Our team was snorkelling close to the Daymaniyat Islands, relaxing while enjoying the cool waters and calm waves. It was at this time when our guide told everyone to look at the left side of us. We were amazed to see a dark creature drifting above the water at a safe distance. I had to look at it closely to find out exactly what I was seeing. The shadow became bigger and bigger until I could see it clearly. A whale was swimming right towards our boat at a safe speed as if it was coming for a peaceful visit.

I never panicked, but then I felt a feeling of awe in me. The massive creature with dotted patterns on its body moved slowly like an ordinary pet making us feel safe. It swam effortlessly but the waves indicated that it was not an ordinary creature but a king of the waters. We were told by our guide to stay at a safe distance and not to provoke it in any way. The whale shark wasn't bothered by our presence but went away slowly on its path.

The most interesting thing was how that moment was cool.  I thought my heart would race at such an experience with a huge creature, but I felt safer like nothing had happened. The water was also quieter and the only sound we could hear was the swaying of its tail.

Everything was peaceful and we had no chaotic wildlife experience. We were few in our group therefore we had an excellent view, also the shark spent more time closely which made everyone of us have the best life moments. As our journey came to an end, I felt a little emotional and grateful for the day's experience.
